We are North Tyneside based dedicated to giving all its students skills that can be used in several ways.  We focus on freestyle karate and kickboxing and will welcome any new student over the age of 5 years old.  We believe that martial arts should be safe, progressive and enjoyable.  We help students gain confidence and improve fitness.

We are currently a Pay As You Go club – there are no monthly subscriptions or commitments.  Annual license fees apply to cover insurance and A.M.A. membership.

What is Free Style Karate?

Free Style karate is a fast, lively, upright striking art with origins that have trickled down and have been Influenced by numerous martial art & kickboxing styles.  Combining these practical applications with the punching & movement of western boxing.  Practise, coaching and mastering of all the punching, kicking, kneeing, elbowing, and open-handed techniques are trained and assessed.

Most of the free style martial art draws parallels with modern sports kickboxing and more.  With regards to self protection, practising the basics only adds to the many tools needed in this particular arena.  Free style karate lends from the best existing martial arts and applies increased practicability of the style.

Cadet Pathway

How do we measure progress?

Very similar to `modern` karate, we mark our students progressions via a coloured belt system.  Starting at White and then progressing to Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Brown/White and then 1st DAN Black, 2nd DAN, 3rd DAN etc.  Adult/cadet Interim belts are used at Blue, Purple and Brown.  Junior students have specific interim belts (yellow/back, orange/black, green/black & blue/black), if a student shows correct ability/effort they may skip the cadet interim belt (chief instructors discretion).

A fully structured syllabus of Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring/partner work) are worked through.  All this work leads to improved fitness as a student progresses.  Regular coloured belt assessments are conducted 3 – 4 times a year for suitable and applicable students; some students may not wish to be assessed and attend to improve fitness and self protection, this is perfectly fine.
Black Belt (DAN assessments) are typically conducted once a year.

All students need to attend the requiste minimum coaching hours (for their belt level) and demonstrate the necessary skills to qualify for any assessment.  The students cumulative hours of coaching is recorded via the CMA attendance system along with thier viability for assessment.
